How to get a Facebook video transcript

Facebook shows auto-generated captions on some videos, but there is no button to copy them, most videos have none, and Facebook offers no caption download at all. This tool transcribes the audio of any public Facebook video, Reel or Live replay, so it works whether or not the video has captions. If you are looking for the “script” of a Facebook video, that is the same thing: the spoken words written down. Three steps:

1. Copy the Facebook video link

Open the video or Reel on Facebook, click Share and choose Copy link. In a browser you can also copy the address bar. Watch links, Page video links, Reel links and fb.watch short links all work; see Supported Facebook links below for the full list.

2. Paste it and click Get Transcript

Paste the link into the box at the top of this page and click Get Transcript. Because Facebook has no caption feed to read, the audio is transcribed with AI speech recognition and the spoken language is detected automatically. This usually takes 15 to 40 seconds depending on the length of the video. Toggle Include timestamps to see when each line is spoken.

3. Copy or download the text

Click Copy to put the transcript on your clipboard, Download TXT for a plain-text file, or Download SRT for a subtitle file with timestamps. Use the search box to find a word or phrase inside a long video instead of scrubbing through it.

Supported Facebook links

Facebook produces several URL shapes for the same kind of content. All of these work when pasted as copied:

The link has to open for a logged-out visitor. Anything that asks you to log in before it plays cannot be transcribed.

Download a Facebook video transcript (TXT or SRT)

Once the transcript is on screen you have three ways to take it with you:

• Copy puts the whole transcript on your clipboard, with or without timestamps depending on the toggle. Paste it into a document, a note or a prompt.
• Download TXT saves a plain-text file. With timestamps off you get clean paragraphs; with timestamps on, each line starts with its [mm:ss] time.
• Download SRT saves a standard subtitle file with numbered cues and start and end times. It loads into CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, VLC and the caption uploaders of YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn.

The file is generated in your browser from the transcript that was already fetched, so downloading is instant and does not count as a second request.

Facebook Reels to text

Reels are the fastest-growing format on Facebook and the one with the fewest captions: most Reels rely on burned-in text that cannot be selected or copied. Paste the Reel URL (facebook.com/reel/...) and the audio is transcribed like any other video. Reels that were cross-posted from Instagram work too, as long as the Facebook link is public.

Because Reels are short, the transcript is usually ready in well under half a minute. Turn timestamps on to get a line for roughly every sentence, which is handy when you want to re-cut the Reel with proper subtitles or quote one specific moment.

Facebook Live transcript

Facebook Live broadcasts become regular videos once the stream ends and the replay is published to the Page or profile. From that point the replay has a normal Watch or Page video link and can be transcribed here. This covers webinars, church services, council meetings, product launches and Q&A sessions that were streamed live.

Live replays are often long. Turn timestamps on, download the SRT or timestamped TXT, and use the search box to jump to a name, a question or a topic without replaying an hour of video. Ongoing live streams cannot be transcribed while they are still live; wait for the replay to appear.

Languages and accuracy

The spoken language is detected automatically.
